Carriage Driving - sport at the highest national level
Team Robert Roel – comprising Robert Roel, his horses, grooms and helpers - actively participated in the sport class Elegance Compound 4, at top class national level, in 2010. In 2009, the team concentrated on training young, talented team driving horses to form a Four in Hand for Class 3 events. Several of these horses graduated to competing in Class 4 events in 2010 and you will find the names and descriptions of the horses, the members of the team and the matches in the calendar under the Activities tab. The results are in our News page.
Instruction for you and your horse
Robert Roel teaches a number of ambitious combinations, working well in the higher levels of their sport. He also teaches people who are not competitive, but seek the most harmonious relationship with their pleasure horses. Robert has successfully completed Level 4 Orun training, given under the auspices of the Royal Dutch Equestrian Federation, and can also give Orun training himself. Whether you want to acquire certificates or simply enjoy this elegant discipline, the feeling of satisfaction when you and your horse(s) work as well-oiled machine in a dressage test, a proficiency test or on marathon course, is immeasurable.
Training and producing carriage horses
Robert’s great passion is training and working with horses. "Working with the different characters and temperaments is always a challenge. Moulding them together to gain the best possible results is my goal." Dressage forms the basis of training the carriage horse, so the horse is loose and flexible and performs the dressage test exercises to the best of his ability. The condition of the horse is also highly important, particularly in the obstacles and marathon phases, and creating and maintaining fitness takes many, many hours of conditioning work.. Variety keeps the horse interested: in addition to the driving work in the arena and out on the trail, all the horses are lunged, hacked and ridden. Many clients simply cannot spare this time from their busy work schedules and choose instead to base their horses with Robert to produce, and in some cases, compete.
Here are some of our competition horses:
Eelke-Hipke
One of the horses in Robert Roel’s team is the stallion Eelke Hipke. A talented horse who also does stud work, he is also produced for dressage by Mark van de Donk. More information on this approved stallion can be found on the stallion’s page.
